About Bluffton University

Bluffton University is a Christian liberal arts college affiliated with Mennonite Church USA, located in Bluffton, which is a village in Allen and Hancock counties, in Ohio state, USA, with a population of nearly 3900 inhabitants, at the time of the 2000 census.

The university was established in 1899 and first started as Central Mennonite College, in 1913 becoming Bluffton College, its current name being adopted in 2004. It presently offers its students `more than 40 undergraduate majors and minors, three graduate programs and a variety of continuing and professional education opportunities that are nationally recognized for excellence.`

Athletics

Bluffton's athletic teams are known as the Beavers and they compete in NCAA Division III and the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference. Their distinctive colors are royal purple and white.

Notable Alumni

On the list of Bluffton's most famous former students, there are also: broadcaster Hugh Downs and comedienne Phyllis Diller (neither graduated), Arthur Compton - physicist and Nobel laureate (attended for a year), Baldemar Velasquez - founder and president of the Farm Labor Organizing Committee and a 1989 MacArthur Fellow, and Science fiction writer Tobias Buckell.
